Exercising with a toddler and doing craft

Today we headed to the park and I did a 45 minute circuit which incorporated cardio and resistance training. Both kids were strapped in the pram while we were walking and then I would stop in shaded areas of the park to do some exercises.

Once my toddler was over being in the pram I let her get out and got her to collect leaves. She was happy collecting them and put them in her bag while I carried on with my exercises.

Back at home we used the leaves to make a collage. She loves pasting and sticking things to paper! Not only did I fit in my exercise I kept her busy and did some craft. It really was a win win situation!!

Masters Swimming

I have decided that I need a bit of me time so I have joined a Masters Swimming Club. Last night I headed down for my first session and when I got there I was thinking, am I mad, I have not swam in a long time and how am I going to keep up with this group that trains regularly!

I am so glad that I did not chicken out and joined the session. The group had people aged 18-90 years and everyone had different fitness levels and abilities. They also have a coach which keeps you motivated and you don't have to design your own swimming program.

My session went really well and I was so happy, besides not being fit I managed to keep up with the group and can't wait to get back in the water again. The group was so friendly and welcoming it made my nerves disappear straight away and I am really excited to get back in the pool.

Must admit my legs felt like jelly when I got out of the pool and my arms are a little sore today but it is a great feeling knowing that you are working your body and on the way to loosing the baby fat!

Around Here

I am building up my core muscles after my c-section doing exercises from here
Grabbing the pram and walking where I can, to play group, friends house or to the shops
Taking the kids to the park and fitting in a bit of exercise while the toddler plays and the baby sleeps
Being thankful that my partner will have both kids so I can do some exercise
Making the most of these hot Autumn days and going to the beach
Starting to find my feet as a mother of two!

Boobs and Nuts

I told myself once I have the baby I am going to eat healthy and the baby weight will fall off with breastfeeding! Who was I kidding, I had so many visitors who brought chocolates, cakes, morning tea, afternoon tea and how was a girl to refuse!

Now my bub is coming up to 12 weeks and the visitors are slowing down it is time to start my healthy eating! No more excuses to eat junk and unfortunately I am not one of those lucky ones where the weight falls off when they are breast feeding.

Feeding makes me hungry all the time and I continually want to eat but I know that I need to start making the right choices. I have got a food and exercise journal ready to go and filled the pantry with healthy snack options like Wonderful Pistachios. A rough guideline for breastfeeding mums is to consume an additional 600 calories so having a few nuts during the day as a snack is a great option. What I love about Wonderful Pistachios is that they offer different flavours to jazz things up, now my taste buds will never be bored!

What do you find as a quick and healthy snack option when you are on the go?

Finding my feet

My baby is 10 weeks old and I am starting to find my feet and getting into the swing of regular exercise. Instead of using the car I am putting the kids in the pram and walking to play group and to the shops. I wanted to go for walks earlier but my pram has no shade for my toddler and it has been a very hot summer in Western Australia. Previously I have given advise on running with a pram but I never considered adding a second seat for a toddler! I love my pram but the toddler seat is not ideal with no shade and it is so much harder to maneuver. I need to get out there and road test some other prams and find one that suits me and my needs.

Do you love your pram? Is it good for two children?

Exercise After Birth

I have finally welcomed my little one into the world. Unfortunately I had an emergency c-section so I have lots of recovering to do. Looking on the bright side I can sit back and let people wait on me!!!

At the hospital they didn't give me a list of exercises you can do after a c-section so I plan on doing lots of research so I get gain strength in my stomach and back.

One thing I can recommend is SRC Pregnancy Recovery Comfort shorts which provide support to the abdomen, lower back and pelvic region while promoting muscle stability. I can notice a big difference when I am wearing them the only problem is with the hot weather we are having they are a little  hot and uncomfortable!

I am looking forward to getting back into exercise eventually but for now I am concentrating on being a mum.

Waiting and Pregnancy Squats

I am still pregnant and patiently waiting!! I really want this baby to come before Friday as the doctors will want to induce my labour. With my first child I was induced and ended up with an emergency c-section so I am trying all the natural ways to bring on labour but so far nothing is working.

My belly on the due date

My yoga instructor suggested squats to help the baby's head engage.
  • Lean against a wall if needed
  • Can also hang onto your kitchen bench and just squat down
  • Roll a blanket or towel under your heels
  • Make sure squats are deep
  • Keep feet nice and wide

For now all I can do is trust my body knows what to do and hope that I will naturally go into labour and have a successful VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean).

(Remember to consult your health practitioner before exercising, especially when pregnant).
